Comstock Metals gets green boost for zero-landfill solar recycling project

Nevada backs next-generation solar panel recycling facility set to launch in 2026

Virginia City, Nevada, 10 February 2026 – Comstock Inc. and its subsidiary, Comstock Metals LLC, have received a major boost to their clean energy ambitions in Nevada after being awarded tax abatements by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development.

The incentives, valued at nearly $900,000, will support the launch of Comstock Metals’ large-scale solar panel recycling and critical metals recovery facility in Silver Springs, northern Nevada. The facility is scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter of 2026 and is designed to recycle around 3.3 million end-of-life solar panels each year, equivalent to roughly 100,000 tons of material.

What sets this project apart is its zero-landfill approach. Comstock Metals operates the only certified solution in North America that ensures solar panels are fully recycled without sending waste to landfills. The company has already secured all required state permits and is currently running pilot operations using its proprietary recycling technology.

Beyond environmental impact, the project is expected to deliver strong economic benefits. As part of the tax abatement program, Comstock Metals plans to create at least 43 skilled jobs and invest more than $12 million in its first year of full-scale operations. Over the 10-year incentive period, the facility is projected to generate more than $7 million in new tax revenue for the state.

Company leadership says the facility is designed to serve the broader southwest United States, addressing the growing challenge of solar panel waste while keeping hazardous materials out of landfills and ecosystems.

Looking ahead, Comstock Metals also plans to expand into clean refining and production of valuable materials recovered from recycled panels. These include silver, copper, silicon, and other critical metals used in electrification and renewable energy technologies. This next phase would position the company as a key player in the domestic supply chain for clean energy metals.

With state support, advanced recycling technology, and a focus on sustainability, Comstock Metals is preparing to play a central role in managing the future of solar waste while creating long-term value for the clean energy economy.
